Mom: Police Covering Up Daughter's Death To Protect Forks Vampire Tourism

FORKS, Wash. -- The mother of a woman found dead in a Forks storage facility says police won't investigate the case as a murder because it could threaten the town's tourism industry generated by the Twilight book series.

"Forks police are pushing this under the carpet and are covering it up," Gonzalez said. "They did no fingerprinting, no interviewing of any suspects at that time."

What raises Gonzalez's suspicion is that the storage unit where her daughter's body was found was latched from the outside.

The Forks police chief was not available to speak with KIRO 7 Eyewitness News on Friday, but offered another explanation for the closed latch to the Peninsula Daily News.

"The only conclusion I can come to is that one of the many people who wander the streets had possibly gone through there, opened [the unit] up, went 'Whoops!', closed it and latched it,"

"How could you call it a suicide if you know the door was latched from the very beginning?" Gonzalez asked.

Gonzalez said her daughter had no connection to the storage unit and that is was easy to rule the case a suicide.

"There are so many things that don't make sense about this," she said. "There are a lot of things out of place."

Gonzalez said she believes police want to play down the case for fear it will affect the local tourism industry that's drawn fans of the Twilight book series to the region in recent years.
