» So the South knew slavery was wrong and planned on getting rid of the institution? How were the plantation owners in the big houses planning to get free labor to do all their work for them? Their whole economy was based on slavery, treating people as property to be bought and sold at will. Stop rewriting history to justify an evil practice.

» It has been a decade since the job-creating Bush tax cuts were implemented. Tick, tick, tick -- why are we still waiting on those jobs to be created?

» To the several (and same) motorists who habitually run the stop sign on Jackson Road at St. Luke's Road every morning around 7:30 a.m.: I really love my life and would like to keep living. Please obey the rules of the road. I have repeatedly had to slam on brakes or swerve to avoid hitting you. Just because it is a back road does not mean there are no cars using it. Most of you never even bother to look in my direction before running the stop sign. One of you even gave me the finger because you ran the stop sign, and I blew my horn. A stop sign means stop and look before proceeding.

» Congratulations to the Maryland state champion athletes on the Eastern Shore. You did a great job all season. Thank you for representing this side of the bay. Also, congratulations to the parents, teachers, coaches, grandparents and anyone involved in each athlete's life. Another huge congratulations to the Class of 2011 at North Dorchester High School, 100 percent of whom graduated. Thanks to everyone who encouraged each student to hang in there.

» I graduated from Mardela High School in 1988. I am sure the Mardela graduating class of 2011 is not much bigger. We didn't need tickets for our family and friends to attend. It was held at the school, where there was plenty of room. To the person who said tickets to a graduation is a normal thing: Well, here it isn't. Besides, you are going to tell me they couldn't let that person into the Civic Center because it was so full of people attending the graduation? Just remember, this is the Eastern Shore. Please do not compare us to the western shore. Life here is much better.

» I would like to know why graduations are held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. Why can't they be held at the school they are graduating from? This is nothing more than a waste of county dollars to hold a graduation at the Civic Center.
