But with stablemate and fellow former Kiwi pacer Flying Pocketlands set to make her first appearance opposing Victorias elite-level mares in the 2240-metre feature this weekend it may be friendly fire that upsets the Talaspring train just as it gathers speed.
Ability wise, theres probably not a heck of a lot between the two mares, Lilley revealed. On their trackwork at home youd actually be pretty hard pressed to work out which is the better horse and since theyve come over here theyve both done an outstanding job.
Back in New Zealand I dont think Talaspring beat Flying Pocketlands home once, but a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then.
This weekend is certainly the biggest test for (Flying) Pocketlands, because the other mare has already proven herself at this level and is hardened to racing against the best mares going around.
Plus Gavins chosen to drive Talaspring again and that probably gives you some indication of where his head is at right now. Well just have to find out on Friday if hes right.

Im picking that Left In Paris will try and hold the front this week, so that could make things interesting, the astute horseman said. But Talasprings great strength is her adaptability so it shouldnt worry her a bit.
Shes certainly added plenty of strings to her bow of late; shes got a good turn of speed off the pace and she can also rough it a bit, so I guess you could call her the perfect racehorse.
Plus shes always stepped up whenever weve asked her to so I cant imagine why she wont be doing the same this time around.
