Puppies bred in filth may end up at dog alley
CANTON, TX (KLTV) - Authorities set their sights on shutting down the place where the dogs rescued Thursday may have been headed.
Authorities say that the puppies were bred in feces-filled filth, and they're certain many of those puppies ended up at Canton's First Monday Trade Days.
Deborah Dobbs with the SPCA of East Texas says she snapped photos of the alleged puppy miller, selling along what's been dubbed as "dog alley."
The city owns the Canton Trade Days property, but animals are not allowed there. Animal sales are allowed on private property. The owner of dog alley was not on-site and the office was closed.
Tim McLemee, owner of Mill Creek Trade Grounds across the street says most of his breeders are good breeders.
Canton Animal Control Officer Tom Perry says he patrols dog alley every First Monday weekend, checking up on the animals and the owners. He says the USDA also sends inspectors.
"They have to show proof of vaccination records. If there's any presence of disease or anything, it gets removed. We can only see what's in front of us and can't inspect people's homes," says Perry.
Stephanie Mosby is president of CLAW, the Citizens League for Animal Welfare. She and other rescue groups are planning to host Petapalooza every First Monday weekend. Mosby hopes to pull potential dog buyers from dog alley to adopt rescued foster dogs that have been properly cared for.
Perry says dog sales have actually gone down over the past few years. He says more sellers are turning to selling their dogs online.
Right now, no criminal charges have been filed in the recent Smith County dog seizure case.
The next Petapalooza event is scheduled for the First Monday weekend in June.

First Monday Trade Days --- Canton, Texas - Woodworking Tips ...
What in the world is Trade Days, pray tell ? In short if there's a market for it, odds are a vendor had it and someone was looking to buy it. Besides the important stuff (you know, woodworking tools) there were Bird Houses made of license plates (looked good & well made), Glassware, Marbles, Buttons, Locks, Door Hardware, and I could go on but you get the point. Plenty of treasures for both guys & gals. It took me & Cathy approximately 10 hours to go thru and view all that was for sale at this huge Flea Market. Top Center --- Wood Molding Plane, wedge & blade are missing (another restoration project). But I do not care, it was only $3 dollars. Top Left --- Stanley #5 Metal Handplane, front knob is missing. Believe I got this one for, for $5 dollars. Plan is to restore it, and put it to use. Top Right --- Bailey Transitional Handplane, 15" length. This one is in decent shape. Paid $15 dollars for this one. Center --- This is the Stanley #78 Rabbet Handplane that I also show in the Photo above. Bottom Left --- This is a 8-5/8" length metal handplane (no name). This one is missing the blade & chip breaker. It only cost $3.75 dollars. I figure if nothing else, I can cannibalize it for parts. Bottom Right --- The last one here is a "Wards Master" #4 (9" length). This one is in decent shape. Paid $7 dollars for it. The Photo below shows eight miscellaneous items that I bought. Not much needs to be said about these 8 items (its obvious what they are), except for the item on the right side of the Photo which has a small rope attached to the top of it. Old time wood windows would have two of these weights. One concealed on each side of the window to assist in opening & closing the window. My plan is to hang this on the outside of my workshop as a conversation piece.
