Westphalia property sells after developer pleads guilty

Smith Home Farm, a 759-acre property that is the largest chunk of the massive Westphalia project in Upper Marlboro, has traded hands, broker Larry Hogan said.

Hogan�s announcement comes 12 days after the FBI said the project�s lead developer, Daniel Colton, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to extortion and other charges.

Scottsdale Airport gets clearance to D.C. airport - Capital Realty

Scottsdale Airport is now the only general-aviation facility in Arizona with direct access to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, an attractive opportunity for more business people and politicians to fly directly into Scottsdale, airport officials say.

Departing airplanes now can get on-site security clearances from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration needed to fly directly into the East Coast commercial facility, which has been under heightened security policies since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks due to its proximity to Washington, D.C.

“With the 2012 election coming up, we see a lot politicians coming to Arizona to meet constituents here,” said Kate O’Malley, aviation-planning and outreach coordinator for Scottsdale Airport.

There are only about 50 general-aviation airports in the country with DASSP access, so the approval process is highly selective, O’Malley said.

Scottsdale now can be a Southwest stopping point for them to “do the TSA inspections and then go on their way to Washington National,” O’Malley said.

TSA recently approved Scottsdale AirCenter, one of two fixed-base operators at the facility, for the DCA Access Standard Security Program, which also provides more-convenient access to Washington than other area airports.

“Scottsdale Airport, along with the airpark, has a tremendous economic impact on our city,” Mayor Jim Lane said. “This enhancement will only make that stronger, making the facility even more attractive to Scottsdale businesses and those considering relocation here.”

Flights can get direct access only through Scottsdale AirCenter, which will continue to carry the cost of the program, O’Malley said.
